Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 May 2026
1. Who we are
ShiftCharge ("ShiftCharge", "we", "us", "our") is a service operated by SlantForge Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. You can reach us at hello@shiftcharge.io.
These terms form a legally binding agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using ShiftCharge, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. What ShiftCharge does
ShiftCharge is a software service that plans charge and discharge schedules for your home battery, based on your smart tariff prices, your solar forecast, and your household's typical energy use. Where you connect a supported inverter, ShiftCharge can also send those schedules to it on your behalf.
ShiftCharge is a tool that helps you control hardware you own. We are not an energy supplier, an electrician, an installer, or a financial adviser. You remain responsible for your battery, your inverter, your tariff, and your bills.
3. Beta service
ShiftCharge is currently in private beta. The service may change, break, or be unavailable without notice. Features may be added, changed, or removed. We may invite or remove beta participants at our discretion.
During the beta we may offer the service free of charge or at a reduced rate. We may introduce or change pricing at any time, with reasonable notice before any charge applies to you.
4. Your account
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a contract. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials safe and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us as soon as possible if you suspect unauthorised access.
You agree to provide accurate information about your home, your tariff, and your hardware. ShiftCharge's recommendations are only as good as the data you give it.
5. Third-party services
ShiftCharge connects to services run by third parties on your behalf — for example your energy supplier (such as Octopus Energy), your inverter vendor's cloud (such as Growatt or GivEnergy), and weather and solar-forecast providers. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, and we have no control over them.
You authorise us to use the credentials you supply to access those services for the purpose of running the ShiftCharge service for you. You can revoke that authorisation at any time by removing the credentials in your account or by deleting your account.
6. Hardware safety and limits
ShiftCharge sends scheduling instructions; your inverter and battery firmware decide what to physically do. You are responsible for installing and maintaining your hardware in line with the manufacturer's instructions and any applicable regulations (including those of your DNO and supplier).
You should not rely on ShiftCharge for safety-critical functions. If you need to prevent specific behaviour for safety reasons (for example, no charging during a fault), use your inverter's own controls, not ShiftCharge.
7. No guarantee of savings
We do our best to optimise your battery for the prices, forecast and usage we can see. We can't promise specific savings — actual savings depend on your tariff, weather, household demand, your hardware, and factors outside our control. Any numbers shown in the app or on our website are estimates, not guarantees.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use ShiftCharge for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to break, probe, or reverse-engineer the service beyond what UK law allows;
- use the service to disrupt third-party systems (your supplier, your inverter cloud, etc.);
- resell, sublicense, or commercialise the service or its outputs without our prior written permission;
- use automated means to scrape, mirror, or overload the service or its underlying APIs.
9. Suspension and termination
You can cancel your account at any time from the in-app account screen, or by emailing us. We can suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if your continued use of the service would create unreasonable risk to other users, third parties, or our suppliers.
On termination, scheduling stops and we will delete or anonymise your data in line with our Privacy Policy.
10. Fees and payment
Where the service is paid, prices are shown before you subscribe. Payment is taken via our payment processor (Stripe). Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. We don't store your card details on our own systems.
You can cancel a paid subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we don't refund partial periods unless we're required to under UK consumer law.
11. Our intellectual property
The ShiftCharge software, branding, content, and design are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for your own household's benefit, in line with these terms. Nothing in these terms transfers any IP to you.
12. Your data
How we collect and use personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the service you consent to that processing.
You retain ownership of the data you provide. You grant us a licence to use it for the purpose of operating the service for you, including to generate aggregated and anonymised statistics that don't identify you.
13. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Subject to that, ShiftCharge is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of business, or loss of expected savings; for the acts, omissions or outages of third parties (including your energy supplier, your inverter cloud, your DNO, or weather data providers); or for damage to hardware caused by failure of those third-party systems or by you or your installer configuring them incorrectly.
Where we are liable to you in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, our total aggregate liability in any 12-month period is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in that period and (b) £100.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes we'll let you know — typically by email or in the app — at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after the change date means you accept the new terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with them, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which you live.
